Parent & Players Code of Conduct

In order to ensure that the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, and mutual respect among players, coaches, officials, and spectators characterize all competition sponsored by the Wilson United Soccer Club, the following Code of Conduct has been established. It is the obligation of all program administrators, coaches, parents, and players to create an environment that promotes these objectives listed below. Those who willfully violate this code jeopardize their participation in the Wilson United Soccer Club.

FOR PLAYERS

  • Know, respect and abide by the rules of soccer and Wilson United Soccer Club.
  • I will challenge myself to be the best player that I can be.
  • I will understand and accept my role with the team concept.
  • Be on time and be prepared for practices and games, and if applicable, statewide tournaments/playoffs.
  • Display self-control in all situations. Never use foul or abusive language - before, during or after a game or training session.
  • Train and play to the best of your ability, have a positive attitude, and encourage others to do the same.
  • Respect the opposition. Treat them as you would like them to treat you. Exhibit good sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
  • Respect the referee. Never dispute his or her decisions. They are only human and they make mistakes, just like you.
  • Respect your teammates. Abusive behavior, language or actions such as bullying, berating or stealing of items from teammates will not be tolerated.
  • I will coordinate with the coach any dates of commitments that conflict with the soccer season schedule prior to the season's start and commit to attend practices and games, and if applicable, statewide tournaments/playoffs.
  • For those playing Travel soccer, I understand that missing training sessions can affect my playing time.
  • Wear the appropriate footwear, shin guards, and apparel to all tournaments, games, and training sessions.

FOR PARENTS

  • Know, respect and abide by the rules of soccer and Wilson United Soccer Club.
  • Be your child's best fan and support them unconditionally.
  • When you take your child home after a match or training session, please be supportive and always focus on the positive aspects of their game.
  • Develop a responsibility in your child to prepare accordingly for all practices and games. Each player should have a ball, cleats, shin guards, and proper soccer attire. Please make sure you bring plenty of water/gatorade for your child.
  • Please show good sportsmanship and cheer on your child’s team. Please refrain from making negative or abusive remarks towards the other team or officials. Please respect the facilities where any soccer matches are held.
  • Please do not instruct your child from the sideline. If you notice something, please find a time to talk with the coach at an appropriate time and not during the game.
  • Please consider volunteering for Wilson United Soccer Club whether at the team level or board level.
  • Do not criticize your child’s coach to your child or other parents. If you are not happy with the coach, you should raise the issue with the coach away from your child and away from any game/tournament situations. The coach will be more than accommodating to schedule a time to discuss any issues a parent may have in the appropriate time and place
  • Encourage your child to speak with the coach. If your child is having difficulties in training or games or can’t attend training etc. encourage them to speak directly to the coaches. This “responsibility taking” is a big part of becoming a mature person. By handling off the field tasks, your child is claiming ownership of all aspects of the game.
  • Help your child to focus on the performance and not the result. Remember - winning is not as important as the performance of the sport. Enjoyment and Improvement are essential elements to playing soccer.
  • I understand that failure to comply and uphold the Code of Conduct can result in temporary or permanent suspension of the player and/or parent from the club and team activities pending a formal Board hearing.
