Coach Code of Conduct
In order to ensure that the principles of sportsmanship, fair play, and mutual respect among players, coaches, officials, and spectators characterize all competition sponsored by the Wilson United Soccer Club, the following Code of Conduct has been established. It is the obligation of all program administrators, coaches, parents, and players to create an environment that promotes these objectives listed below. Those who willfully violate this code jeopardize their participation in the Wilson United Soccer Club.
FOR ALL COACHES
Wilson United Soccer Club is committed to fostering positive opportunities where players can develop to their full potential and are inspired to find lifelong enjoyment in the game of soccer. Therefore, we believe that our coaches are first and foremost role models and teachers. Coaching is about motivating players to produce their best effort, inspiring players to learn, and encouraging players to excel both on and off the pitch. It is about developing a player's skills for the game as well as individual confidence, leadership, and teamwork abilities. While the competitive levels are different for the Travel and Recreation side of our club, we believe that as long as 100% effort is given, the players, coaches, and parents should be proud of their performance regardless of the outcome.
As a coach for Wilson United Soccer Club, I recognize and understand the mission of WUSC and commit to:
- Place player development as the ultimate goal for each player and team.
- Play according to the laws and the spirit of the game. It is also my responsibility to know the rules for my team’s division.
- Being on time and prepared for all practices, games, and if applicable, tournaments/playoffs.
- Display self-control in all situations. Never using foul or abusive language; before, during, or following a game or practice.
- Exhibit and model sportsmanship among players.
- Belittling, bullying, or making unkind comments to a player or referee will not be tolerated.
- Coach players to train and play to the best of their ability, have a positive attitude, and encourage others to do the same.
- Respect the referee, even if in disagreement with calls or decisions, and set an example for your players by respecting the game officials.
- Place the well-being of your players above winning. This includes abiding by the rules of what is appropriate play for certain age brackets.
- Attend all coaches meetings, team practices and matches, and if applicable, tournaments/playoffs.
- Maintain regular communication with parents about the season.
- Abide by the rules and regulations of WUSC as well as, TSSA, TSSAA, and USYSA. This includes not using or condoning the use of prohibited substances and/or illegal drugs.
- Create a safe, enjoyable atmosphere for players to develop in their respective competitive levels.
- Respect the coaches and players of opposing teams at all times. They are opponents, not enemies.
- Improving as a coach. This includes learning and receiving feedback from the Director of Coaching and/or the Director of Soccer Operations with a humble, positive attitude.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of each and every person and treat them equally within the context of the sport.
- Read any other supplementary articles provided by WUSC for coaches and/or player development. Coaches should read the Travel and Recreation Coaches Guide depending on which league they plan to coach in.
- I understand that failure to comply and uphold the Code of Conduct can result in temporary or permanent suspension of the player and/or parent from the club and team activities pending a formal Board hearing.
